Chapter Eight

Lily

My tummy feels weird, a little queasy and my head feels heavy.

It could be this long night road drive is getting to me because we travel in the morning and rest at night, now we’re basically on the road for about twenty-four hours and Antonio doesn’t look tired at all.

Sharp eyes surveying and observing all the cars that are around us as we speed down the highway, morning traffic has us trapped between cars of people trying to get to work.

I started to feel sick after we left the motel room, I think that adrenaline spike and the long road trip caused my body to have an imbalance of something in my system. I don’t have food in my stomach to offset the rocking motion of the car as it stops and moves from the jam-packed traffic.

“Lily.” Antonio’s voice is gentle and soft, the pounding in my head appreciates the volume.

My cotton mouth can’t open and answer him, my head leans against the window and prays with whatever energy I have left to will the traffic away. I wish I was Moses so I can part this sea of cars. I have nothing in my stomach to throw up for, but it’s that excessive saliva battling the dryness of my mouth that triggers the need to put my head in the toilet.

My stomach turns when cars begin to move forward, it becomes worse as the car beside me had a woman eating something that I couldn’t make out. The sight of food makes me nauseated and it looks disgustingly greasy, I turn away with a whimper as a gag is suppressed just in time.

Getting some sleep might get rid of this, it’s probably just car motion sickness.

A calloused hand touches my forehead, feeling my temperature as a shiver flow through me. I crack an eye open and moan happily as Antonio’s warm hand strokes my cheek, I understand morning summers can be a bit chilly, but it shouldn’t be this cold.

“Don’t feel good,” I murmur, scrunching my nose as I almost gag again.

I whine lowly when he pulls his hand away, my heavy lids close at the firm tone of his voice. I don’t know who he’s talking to on the phone but the person on the other line picked up as soon as Antonio placed the call.

Pain turns my stomach into jelly as the headache gets more severe.

What is happening?

Is this the result from yesterday?

After Antonio went outside to check around the place, there was a knock on the door and at first I was terrified because Mango had been barking loudly and I was surprised that Antonio didn’t come back because of the noise.

Neighbors didn’t complain either so it was weird, but when I heard that familiar voice that had been with me for so long that I knew it was safe.

It was Fiona when I opened the door.

One of the people closest to Noah and she had been protecting me since the day I was inserted into the criminal underworld for being affiliated with Noah.
